Coronavirus Update, March 8, 2021

Data from the New York State Health Department shows that COVID-19 vaccinations have exceeded 20,000 in Tompkins County.

This makes 9.74 percent of the county fully vaccinated. The Ithaca Voice reports that Public Health Director Frank Kruppa has said that 75 percent of the population has to be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity. Tompkins County’s population has the second highest rate of first vaccination doses distributed in the area.

Tompkins County is reporting 8 new cases of COVID-19, and a total of 90 active cases.

Schuyler County is reporting 3 new cases, and a total of 9 active cases of COVID.
