Tompkins County Legislature Officially Establishes the Community Justice Center

The Tompkins County Legislature passed a resolution at Tuesday night’s meeting to establish the Community Justice Center.

The Center will serve as the administrative backbone of the Reimagining Public Safety Plan, passed early this year by the County Legislature and City of Ithaca’s Common Council.

Rich John is the Chair of the Legislature Public Safety Committee. Introducing the plan at Tuesday's meeting, he said, "This is our really big first substance step after passing the plan with setting up the Community Justice Center as the interface between the city and the county."

John said that the center's responsibility will not be  oversee or manage the implementation of the plan, but to coordinate and help track all the different steps taken in getting it formed.

City and County governments have committed almost $270,000 in funding to the Community Justice Center so far.
