TCAT Changing it’s Routes, Hosting Focus Groups

This is a press release Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit (TCAT).

To submit Community Announcements to WRFI Community Radio News, email news@ithacaradio.org.

The public is invited to attend any of five virtual focus groups this month to weigh in on a proposed system redesign resulting from TCAT’s Transit Development Plan (TDP) 2020-2021.

Focus groups are either divided among all or different types of ridership:

  • Wed., June 9 – 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Urban ridership
  • Thurs., June 10 – 5:30 p.m.  to 7 p.m.: Rural ridership
  • Sat., June 12 – 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.: All ridership
  • Mon., June 14 – 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Campus ridership
  • Tues., June 15 – 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.: All ridership

For details on how to connect to any of the above Zoom sessions click here.

County residents, including both riders and non-riders, are encouraged to participate to provide feedback on the draft system redesign produced by TCAT’s TDP consulting firm, Sam Schwartz. Over the past several months, consultants worked with TCAT staff to create a draft plan that includes route re-alignments, frequency adjustments and other changes intended to improve TCAT service.

If you can’t make the meetings you can see the draft plan and online planning tool, which features a comment section to share feedback. Click: Proposed route changes/mapping tool.

The TDP process started last fall with phase one of the public engagement process that asked participants to identify what they want and need from their local transit system. Phase two started with a May 25th open house and will extend through the end of June. Public engagement also includes an online survey here and one-on-one meetings with TCAT transit ambassadors. Click here to reach ambassadors.  A final plan will be presented to the TCAT Board of Directors for its consideration and approval later this summer.
