An analysis by Cornell Researchers of public comments submitted to the Department of Environmental Conservation found that 98 percent of comments were opposed to the Greenidge Generation’s air permit renewal. Greenidge is a proof-of-work cryptocurrency mining facility in Dresden, NY. Proof-of-work crypto mining has been the target of environmentalists due to its immense energy usage. State Assemblymember Anna Kelles thanked researchers for their work. Kelles has advocated a moratorium on proof-of-work crypto mining in New York state.

William Metro, better known as Magic Man, has been removed from the Republican Primary ballot for Ithaca’s Special Mayoral Election. According to the Ithaca Voice, Metro’s opponent in the Primary Zachary Winn successfully challenged 8 signatures on Metro’s designating petitions. Winn, a conservative blogger and activist, will now be the only candidate on the Republican ballot. Metro says he plans to mount a third party bid under the “Common Sense Party” line. Incumbent Mayor Laura Lewis is running unopposed in the Democratic primary. The election’s winner will fill out the final year of the Mayor’s term.

Yesterday, former President Donald Trump was held in contempt by a New York State judge for failing to turn over documents to state Attorney General Letitia James. According to the New York Times, Judge Arthur F. Engoron ordered the former president to pay a $10,000 fine everyday he doesn’t comply. Trump attorney Alina Habba said she plans to appeal the decision. Habba also plans to file a sworn statement detailing the steps taken to locate all relevant documents. This may appease the judge and end the contempt order.
