On Monday, it was announced that the Ithaca Housing Authority would be awarded $58 million from the state to develop affordable housing in the city. According to Finger Lakes Daily News, the money will go towards the development of 118 affordable and modern housing units. Overlook Terrace on Hector St. and Southview Gardens on S Plain St. will be overhauled, and the Northside Apartments will be demolished and replaced by 82 new apartments and two playgrounds. The new units will be built to fit the Homes and Community Renewal’s Stretch Sustainability Standards for energy efficiency.

Yesterday, Governor Hochul announced the Health Care and Mental Hygiene Worker Bonus program. The program allocates $1.3 billion to Medicaid for the retention of frontline healthcare employees. According to the Governor’s website, bonuses will be awarded to [QUOTE], “eligible workers who make less than $125,000 annually and remain in their positions for at least six months”. Bonuses can range from $500 to $3000 per employee depending on time worked. Eligible employers can submit employees who qualify for bonuses through the online portal at nysworkerbonus.com

Both Tompkins and Schuyler county have a heat advisory in effect today from 11 am to 8 pm, along with most of the Southern Tier. According to My Twin Tiers, heat index values of up to 98 are expected to occur across the region. Health officials are recommending that residents stay hydrated, stay out of the sun, and stay indoors with air conditioning if possible.
