Early voting ended Sunday and tomorrow is election day. Voters will be headed to polls to vote in Democratic primaries for the new 52nd State Senate district and the new 19th Congressional district as well as a special election to fill the seat in the old 23rd Congressional district vacated by Tom Reed who resigned in May. State Senate candidates Leah Webb and Leslie Danks Burke squared off last week in a debate presented by Temple Concord Reform Jewish Temple in Binghamton. Congressional candidates Josh Riley and Jamie Cheney met with journalists from WSKG on August 12. The winner of that race will take on Hudson Valley Republican Marc Molinaro. Democrat Max Della Pia and Republican Joe Sempolinski compete in the special election. The winner will serve the old 23rd Congressional district until the 118th Congress is seated on January 3, 2023. The new 22nd Congressional district includes nearby Schuyler and Chemung Counties and holds a primary tomorrow. Republicans Carl Paladino and Nicholas Langworthy compete to face unopposed Max Della Pia in November.
