Yesterday was election day and unofficial results are in. Voters in Ithaca have chosen Acting Mayor Laura Lewis to serve a one year term. The seat was left open when former Mayor Svante Myrick left the role early. Lewis appears to have won with about 68 percent of votes, Progressive Katie Sims won 23 percent. Ithaca voters also overwhelmingly showed their support for creating a City Manager position. The City Manager will assume some responsibilities currently held by the Mayor.

In contested local races in Schuyler County, early results show that voters chose Republicans. Incumbent Hector Town Supervisor Justin Boyette, a Democrat, lost to Republican challenger John White in a close race. Republican Benjamin Dickens won over Democrat Paul Bursic for Hector Town Council.

CNN named Kathy Hochul as the winner of NY’s gubernatorial race over far right Republican Lee Zeldin.
