ITHACA, NY -- Stewart Park is still closed to the public and, as a result, Friends of Stewart Park are cancelling their Family Fun Day today. The organization officially cancelled the event last night.

Serious storm damage from June keeps Stewart Park off limits. Trees were toppled and branches strewn throughout. The City of Ithaca’s Department of Public Works is still cleaning up the debris.

The cleanup effort was bolstered by a volunteer effort on June 25th. The turnout was over 100 people strong. The event was organized by Friends of Stewart Park and the City, but even with the extra push, no one is exactly sure when the park will be open.

Friends of Stewart Park are still aiming to throw a Centennial Birthday Bash for Stewart Park Park on July 11th. It was originally scheduled for July 4th, and may be postponed again. The party needs to get an official go-ahead from the City before it can happen.

Friends of Stewart Park said they will provide an update on the Centennial Celebration this Friday.
