ITHACA, NY -- PETA, or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is asking for Buttermilk Falls State Park to have its name changed to Plant Milk Falls State Park for at least a day — the day being, August 22nd, which is supposed to be World Plant Milk Day.

PETA sent a letter to New York State Parks Commissioner, Erik Kulleseid, outlining their request.

The animal rights organization said that the name of Buttermilk Falls State Park links it to an "ugly industry" that takes calves from mother cows.

PETA is making an offer to the State Park Agency if they change Buttermilk’s name for a day: They will contribute to the cost of new signage, and send vegan milk alternatives for park visitors to enjoy on World Plant Milk Day.
