Dems Choose 3rd District Nominee

Democrats have selected Susan Currie as their nominee in the special election for the county legislature’s third district. Incumbent legislator Henry Granison stepped down in October shortly before passing away. A Special Election to select Granison’s replacement is scheduled for January 24th. Currie was selected by a committee of third district democrats. Currie is the former Director of the Tompkins County Public Library. 

 

TCAT Workers Authorize Strike

TCAT workers have voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike. According to the Ithaca Voice, the strike authorization does not commit the workers a strike, but does indicate they be willing to strike over coming contract negotiations. 88 percent of voting members supported the authorization with a 65 percent turnout. TCAT workers are represented by the United Auto Workers Local 2300. The contract between the UAW and TCAT  expired over 6 months ago. The transit operator has been plagued by staffing shortages and has cut numerous routes in recent months. 

 

First Snow Day of the School Year

Today is the first snow day for the Ithaca City School District. The ICSD Announced yesterday that all school sponsored and after-school events would be canceled due to ongoing winter storm Diaz. A few inches of snow were expected before the day began with more snow showers throughout the day into the evening.
