Ithaca CarShare Shuts Down Today. Here's What You Should Know

Ithaca CarShare is temporarily closing today. The non-profit is unable to renew its insurance because of a state regulatory issue. Legislation that would resolve the problem was introduced in the state Assembly and Senate. Listen to our interview with Executive Director Liz Field today at 2 and again at 5 PM here on WRFI.

Special Olympics Will Return To Ithaca

The New York Special Olympics Summer Games are coming back to Ithaca on June 9th and 10th. The Ithaca Voice reports over 800 athletes from across the state will compete in seven sports including swimming, powerlifting and tennis. Competitions will be held at Ithaca College and Ithaca High School. The Games allow athletes with intellectual disabilities to compete in Olympic-type sports. Ithaca also hosted the Special Olympics last year.

Schuyler County Extends Migration State of Emergency

On Tuesday, Schuyler County extended its state of emergency to address the increase of migrants coming upstate. The declaration was extended for another five days. It was first announced last week after New York City Mayor Eric Adams began bussing migrants to other counties. The state of emergency prohibits municipal programs, hotels, and other short-term living spaces from housing undocumented immigrants and asylum seekers. Violators may face a fine of up to $2,000 per person per day.
