On Monday, New York State announced a new 24-hour COVID-19 hotline. According to Spectrum News, the hotline provides telemedicine services to state residents who do not have access to a health care provider and need COVID-related treatments. Governor Hochul’s office announced that the hotline was created due to a recent increase of Covid cases, specifically the BA5 Omicron variant. New York residents living outside New York City should call 888-TREAT-NY or complete the online evaluation at https://nys.expresscare.video/landing

WETM is reporting that, in addition to a string of burglaries this past weekend, six more were discovered Monday morning. Ithaca police are looking for possible connections between the crimes and the cases are under investigation. The burglaries reported Monday include break-ins at Rosie’s Ice Cream, Automotive Consultants, Lincoln Street Diner, Fall Creek House, The Milk Stand, and Ace Security. Cass Park Pool reopened yesterday afternoon and will be open on its regular schedule today. The city had been forced to shut down the pool due to a nationwide chlorine shortage. According to 14850.com, the city apologized for the closure and announced that the pool will reopen with a full schedule including morning lap swimming and public swimming on Wednesday.

The Women Swimmin' fundraiser for Hospicare is returning to Ithaca after two years. Over 300 participants will swim 1.2 miles across Cayuga Lake to raise money for the organization’s counseling and end-of-life care. The Ithaca Voice says in 2021, over $465,000 was raised with the new fundraising option, "Go the Distance." Go the Distance was created in response to Covid-19 and allows people to raise money while socially distancing. The event will be held at the Ithaca Yacht Club on August 13th.
