- Ithaca Common Council to interview city manager finalists -

Ithaca’s Common Council will start interviewing the finalists for city manager this week. Interview meetings are scheduled for this Wednesday and Thursday and on November 13 at 9 AM in the Council chambers in City Hall. The city manager is a new position. The person who is hired will be responsible for implementing policies and the day-to-day running of the city. The Ithaca Voice reports the finalists were selected from 40 applicants after a nationwide search. Members of the public may attend the interview meetings as observers.

- Former president of Binghamton University college Republicans sentenced for January 6 involvement -

The former president of Binghamton University’s College Republicans was sentenced in October for his involvement in the January 6 attacks on Congress. Jon Lizak pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor of “parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol Building.” Security footage from the U.S. Justice Department showed Lizak and the codefendants in the conference room of then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Footage also showed Lizak standing nearby as one of the men he was with assaulted a police officer with a metal barricade. Binghamton University Pipe Dreams reports Lizak was sentenced to 36 months probation and a “special assessment” of $10. A current student officer of Binghamton’s College Republicans denounced Lizak’s actions.
