- State law saving Ithaca Carshare goes into effect -

The Ithaca Carshare bill became law on March 1. The new law resolves a technical insurance regulatory issue that resulted in Ithaca Carshare and other nonprofits losing insurance coverage for their vehicles. Ithaca Carshare stopped all operations last May. The carshare will reopen sometime this month. The bill was introduced by local lawmakers, State Senator Lea Webb and Assemblyperson Anna Kelles.

 

- Cornell students and faculty call for changes to the “Interim Expressive Activity Policy” -

The Cornell Student Assembly voted unanimously on February 22 to ask the administration to suspend the “Interim Expressive Activity Policy”. The Cornell Daily Sun reports the Assembly wants the policy halted until an official consultation with University assemblies is done. Assembly members have previously expressed concern about several aspects of the interim policy including registration for all indoor events and outdoor events with more than 50 people in certain community spaces, a ban on postering on trees or outside structures, and a prohibition of the use of candles for events like outdoor candlelight vigils. Faculty members voiced their criticism of the policy in an online faculty forum on February 28.
