WRFI's fall fund drive launches this Monday, September 28th, and lasts all week. Our volunteers are pulling out all the stops to make great radio - tune in!
We're proud to amplify the voices of our community. We're a home for independent journalism, bringing local, regional, and national programs that work outside the restrictions of the corporate media to the airwaves every day. Our dozens of local volunteer hosts bring their perspectives and passions to our studios every day. We run public service announcements for local organizations, sharing their services and resources with our listeners every day.
We do all this with the support of our community. Individual donations are the largest and most important source of our operating funds. You can be part of the great work we do - donate this week! Every little bit helps!

Grateful Dead's Dark Star Examination
The Finger Lakes Center for Dark Star Studies proudly presents a two-hour examination of the Grateful Dead’s live performance practice during the pivotal year of 1973. Beginning with Dark Star as a recognizable song and proceeding through its increasingly porous boundaries, we will examine its relationship to the other components of the Dead’s extended suites, its migration across songs and transitions, and the gradual emergence of a startling new phenomenon: Dark Star not as composition, but as contagion. By late 1973, the question is no longer simply “Are they playing Dark Star?” but “Where isn’t Dark Star?” Through close listening, comparative analysis, and entirely unnecessary scholarly rigor, we will trace the spread of the Dark Star virus through Eyes of the World, Weather Report Suite, Playing in the Band, Truckin’, and other susceptible musical hosts. Please join DJ Todd P for this important contribution to the burgeoning field of Dark Star epidemiology.
