Flooding Reported in Tompkins County Thursday Night

Last night’s storms caused serious flooding on Tompkins county‘s roads, and more rain is expected to follow into the weekend.

WCHU radio reported that last night, several people were trapped on top of their cars after a wal-mart parking lot flooded in Cortlandville.

A bridge near Harvey hill Road in Enfield was washed out, and road flooding was reported on East Shore Drive and Triphammer Road in Lansing.

Late last night, Ithaca’s Hangar Theater was severely flooded.  Photos of water-filled cars found in the Theater’s parking lot were posted on twitter last night.

Some of the worst damage occurred in Cortland County.  Routes 11, 38, and 327 were closed this morning due to storm damage.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga and Tompkins counties until 7 p.m. tonight.
