On Tuesday, New York City Public Advocate and Candidate for Governor Jumaane Williams appeared in Ithaca. According to the Ithaca Voice, Williams appeared alongside Common Councilors Jorge Defendini and Phoebe Brown. Williams voiced support for  “Good Cause Eviction” legislation and recent unionization efforts at Ithaca’s three Starbucks locations. Williams is challenging incumbent Governor Kathy Hochul for the Democratic nomination. Williams previously faced Hochul in the 2018 race for Lieutenant Governor, a race Hochul ultimately won. Williams carried Tompkins County in the 2018 race by almost 25 points.

Yesterday, the New York State Legislature approved the state's new congressional map. According to the Washington Post, the map would produce 22 seats won by President Biden and 4 seats won by Former President Trump. The map passed in the State Assembly 103-45 and later in the state Senate by a vote of 43-20. The map’s final step is to be signed by Governor Kathy Hochul, who is widely expected to do so.

The Tompkins County Health Department has announced that over 41,000 Tompkins residents have received a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Over 75,000 have received two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, and over 83,000 have received either their first dose of the pfizer or moderna vaccine, or the one dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The county health department is continuing to urge all residents to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, and a booster when eligible. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning across the Finger Lakes region. According to 14850.com the warning is in effect from 1 A.M. this morning to 3 P.M. tomorrow. The weather service is warning of hazardous conditions for both morning and evening commutes. According to CNN, the storm is part of a wider weather system stretching from New Mexico all the way to Maine covering over 100 Million Americans.
