Schuyler County Public Health has canceled a vaccine clinic scheduled for today, due to inclement weather. The county is urging residents to attend next week’s clinic on Friday February 11th. The clinic will be from 9:00 A.M. to Noon and from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M at the Watkins Glen Community Center. The clinic is open to all residents 5 and older. Yesterday, State Assemblymember Anna Kelles called on the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to release their review of the Greenidge Generation cryptocurrency facility. The facility has been the site of controversy over it’s massive energy usage, and negative effects on the environment. Kelles has been critical of the Greenidge Generation project and drafted legislation that would put a moratorium on cryptocurrency mining. In a statement to the media Kelles said “we need the DEC to lead and take swift action on this critical climate issue.”
Yesterday, the New York State Legislature approved the state’s new maps for the state assembly and the state senate. The new maps would place Tompkins and Ithaca into deeply democratic seats in both the state assembly and state senate. According to Fox5’s Morgan McKay, the maps passed in the state assembly by a vote of 118-29 and in the state senate by a vote of 43-20. The maps still must be approved by Governor Kathy Hochul, who is widely expected to do so.
The Tompkins County sheriff has issued a travel advisory for today. A winter storm warning is still in effect with snow showers expected into this afternoon. The Sheriff’s office is urging all drivers to use extra caution when traveling, and to anticipate longer commutes than usual. Drivers should also allow highway crews plenty of room to clear the roads.
