Tune in, Turn on, and Take Part! Join Us for WRFI’s Spring “Fun” Drive and Be Part of this Community-Powered Radio Revolution!

What does community radio mean to you?

We think this commercial-free, free-form, independent station helps make our listeners lives—and life in our communities—just a little better. We strive to make programing that opens ears, opens hearts, and leads us to ask important questions about our world. Even if it's just to ask yourself, "What in the WORLD am I listening to?"

That's because we believe that life is better with a little wonder, and when we hear voices that are too often left out of the media landscape, sounds that make us sit up and take notice, and ideas that challenge our established views.

YOU are an essential part of this ecology of community radio. As a community radio listener, you're both an audience member and part of the community we strive to reflect.

There's always something interesting happening at WRFI but this week during our Spring Fund Drive we’re doing our best to spice things—both on the airwaves and in the community.

Starting at around 2pm Wednesday (4/18), outstanding avant-garde saxophonist Keir Neuringer will perform a special live improvised duet on the air with his young son Emiri. Keir is the host of "Jumping in the Sugarbowl" (Tuesdays 12-2pm) and a member of the widely acclaimed free jazz ensemble Irreversible Entanglements. You can see their performance on NPR's Tiny Desk here, or you can tune into to WRFI and hear them on our even tinier desk!

Later on Thursday from 4-6pm, Executive Director Felix Teitelbaum will broadcast a live special set by renown banjo player and local favorite Richie Stearns live from Wide Awake Bakery. Tune in or come by and say "hi!"

Saturday is Earth Day (and Record Store Day, and 4/20—wink, wink). WRFI DJs will be on the Ithaca Commons celebrating our love of Mother Earth at Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Earth Day celebration from noon to 5pm. Our DJs will bring out their very best. Come hang out and meet some of your favorite WRFI personalities. We'll be near the center of the Commons next to American Crafts by Robbie Dean.

Then on at 4pm on Sunday (4/21), Peter B of "Burning Airlines" will host a special live performance by emerging Elmira-based electro combo Gianni and Ray.

ALL THIS PLUS, our regular on-air DJs are amping up the airwaves with more of the unique programming you’ve come to expect from us.

  • Dr. Billy will present a special “April Showers” edition of "Kampung Jams" on Thursday at 3pm celebrating South Asian Pop and Hip Hop with an eye on the skies;
  • Ben of "The Attic Inhabitant" will spin a special set of indie rock from around the world at 6pm Thursday;
  • At 2pm on Saturday, lowercase marc will devote the entirety of his two-hour show "Catholic Block" to the North Carolina music scene;
  • Then at 8pm on Saturday, Kid Catharsis will share a round-up of brand new Record Store Day releases on "Bombast!"

There's never been a better time to become a hero of the airwaves and YOUR community radio station, WRFI. Please take a moment and give generously and help build community through the power of community radio!
