On Tuesday, the Tompkins County Legislature voted 8-6 to raise the salary of the county sheriff. Voting in opposition, Democrat Mike Lane expressed concern about raising the salary of an elected official mid term calling it a “terrible precedent.” Lansing Democrat Deborah Dawson, voted in favor pointing out that due to a quirk in the county pay structure, the Sheriff is currently making less than the undersheriff and his Lieutenants. The measure will change the pay structure so the sheriff is always paid more than his subordinates.

Governor Kathy Hochul’s campaign for governor released fundraising information this week that revealed the Governor raised nearly $22 Million over six months shattering previous fundraising records. According to Politico, this came on the same day Siena College released polling data that showed the governor leading in the Democratic Primary by 34 points. Hochul’s nearest rival in that poll, Bill de Blasio, announced he would not run for governor just hours later. Hochul will still face Long Island Congressman Tom Suozzi and New York City Public Advocate Juamaane Williams in the June Primary.
