TOMPKINS COUNTY, NY — COVID-19 cases continue to climb in Tompkins County.

The Health Department reported 92 new positive cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, and a total of 268 active cases for Monday, August 30th. The last time Tompkins County saw cases this high was January 25th.

A significant amount of community spread seems to be asymptomatic, with over 50 percent of positive cases reporting no known contact with another positive case.

Although, Tompkins County is seeing a relative decrease in severe cases. January 25th had 19 active hospitalizations. There are currently 3 people hospitalized in Tompkins County as a result of COVID-19.

To flatten the recent spike in cases, the Health Department is urging people to get vaccinated, and wear masks while indoors and around others.

The Tompkins County Health Department will be holding a community update on September 2nd at 4:30pm. It can be viewed live on Tompkins County’s YouTube channel.
